Electric Landspeed Record

In another of Don Wales’ attempts to break a record and keep the family tradition of going fast in various vehicles alive, team Bluebird made their way to the beach once more this summer in an  attempt to break their own UK record for an Electric powered vehicle.

Part of the weekend was designed to enable the team to assess the potential for attempting bigger and  better records over the next few years, and also I assume to raise support and funding for these future  attempts.

For this attempt Don was Joined by his son Joe, ( Malcolm Campell’s Great Grandson ) who would be attempting his first record , it was during the attempt for this record that Joe hit a pothole on the beach causing damage to the front for the car. I heard a few people mention during the day that the visibility when driving were quite poor. This was making it difficult to keep the car on the track that was marked out between the sea and some flags, so I don’t think Joe had much hope of seeing a pothole most likely caused by a Jellyfish. Both Joe and Don were quite disappointed but I think these are the kind of guys who fully understand all the risks when taking on this kind of attempt.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the team will attempt their next record at Bonneville Salt flats,  There are a lot less jellyfish there. Good luck to them whatever they decide to do and I hope to see them down the beach another day as It’s getting to be an annual outing and I’ll miss it if nobody decides to try and break some kind of speed record on Pendine beach  in 2012.

A first for me…. and a first place for the horse…

Saturday was the Annual Man Vs Horse Marathon at Llanwrtyd Wells, Powys. I love covering the events that are put on by the fab ( and very friendly ) residents of Llanwrtyd Wells.

Last year saw a couple of pics in the Telegraph. This year I Managed to get usage in the Wall street Journal, a first for me so I’m chuffed to bits.
A smaller front page pic & a good sized inside one.

Oh and the horse won again! It’s an amazing event the stamina and fitness of both runner & rider are amazing. The course is ran over 22 miles on a mixture of terrains. It’s well worth a look, and if you can run further than me ( about 10 yards ) I’m sure you would be OK! visit   http://www.green-events.co.uk/ for more info.

See you up the bog later in the summer……

Carys // Photobox Marketing

photobox Carys // Photobox Marketing

I was chuffed to bits the other  day to see that a photo that I had taken some  time ago for a shoot a Llansteffan Beach with my friend Annalee & her kids  had been chosen to be used in a marketing campaign by one of the UK’s leading print fulfillment companies, photobox.

Llansteffan is a fab place to be in any weather and is one of my favorite places in carmarthenshire to have informal ‘ beachside’ portrait sessions. I  have to admit that pressing the shutter was the easy part when photographing Carys, even at an early age she is a complete star in front of the camera and I”m sure will go on to be an even bigger star as she gets older. You saw her here first !!

If you would like to book a similar photo session for you  or the family please get in touch on 07969 002 137 or email aled@digiwales.co.uk even if you are  little further away than Carmrthenshire, Pembrokeshire, Ceridigion or Swansea.

World Mountain Bike Bog Snorkelling 2010

As one of the residents of the wonderful village of Llanwrtyd Wells mentioned to me over the weekend. ” This is the best place in wales for a dirty weekend“. I have no doubt that probably is.

This weekend was the annual World mountain bike bog snorkeling championships. The idea is to cycle into the bog, cycle / snorkel your way around a pre set course in the fastest time. A fantastic time was had by all. Locals & Visitors joined together to make a great ‘bogside’ atmosphere. Some of the photos of the event are below for you to see.

Cuffern Manor

Last week I was lucky enough to have spent the day at Cuffern manor in Pembrokeshire. Cuffern Manor is set in a beautiful location,   is just 3 miles from the National Coastal path and the 2 mile long award winning sandy beach at Newgale. I spent most of the day photographing the hotel, the grounds & the rooms.

If you ever get the chance to visit or need a fantastic base in pembrokeshire explore the wonderful area why not get in touch with them. You  take a look at their website here.

TRJ // Parc Y Scarlets

I spent the most of Friday evening at a Gala Event hosted By T. Richard Jones ( TRJ ) at Parc y Scarlets in LLanelli. It was a fabulous night in which Friends of the Company came together to celebrate TRJ’s 75th anniversary. Highlights of the evening included a fantastic speech and humorous insight to the Ammanford based Company’s history by it’s director. It was nice to meet the   ever entertaining Roy Noble. Also if you ever get the chance to catch up and  coming comedian Rod Woodward, do it.

Here are a couple of frames from the evening, Including a couple of shots of the companies vintage vehicles that were parked outside the Stadium for the evening.
